Year 4 Egyptian Day
Wow! Our Egyptian day was epic! We made an Egyptian mint dip made from: cucumber, garlic, yoghurt, mint leaves and cumin powder. We made our delicious dip to go with our homemade, golden-brown bread. Meanwhile, we made and tasted a typical coconut milk and cardamon enthused drink. After that, we compared Gods and Goddesses and became Egyptian detectives to find out about different artefacts.
We then spent the afternoon learning an Egyptian dance to 'Walk like an Egyptian'. Dancing like an Egyptian was lots of fun; however, it used a lot of energy. Whilst being Egyptians for the day, we also had the opportunity to do some different Egyptian arts and crafts.

Year 4's Magnificent Projects
Year 4 have impressed their teachers by putting together incredible projects on Egypt over the half term. The enjoyment of the children when sharing their homework showed just how immensely proud they were of what they had achieved. From detailed maps of Egypt to creating their own mummy, the children have been fantastically creative and have learnt so much through the creation of their projects. Thank you to all the adults who gave a helping hand in the creation of their children's visions! In many cases you have provided resources as well as expertise.

Year 4: Our Trip to the British Museum
Last week, Year 4 visited the British Museum to learn about an ancient time of mummies, pyramids and hieroglyphics. The trip brought their current topic of Ancient Egypt to life, giving them an insight into the lives of people in the time of the pharaohs.
Year 4 explored many rooms filled with artefacts from Ancient Egypt, including pots, tools and wall paintings. However, it was the bandaged mummies that caught their attention the most, along with the canopic jars which held the organs of the mummified Egyptians. They were also intrigued by the golden sarcophagi, which were elaborately decorated for richer Egyptians to take with them on their journey to the afterlife. The children observed the remains of a man who had a sand burial. The desert sand that encased the man helped preserve his body so that skin, flesh and hair have remained visible after thousands of years.
We are so lucky to have this fantastic museum just a train journey away. Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed their experience and it was truly a day to remember.

Year 3: Mad Hatter's Tea Party
In Year 3, we have been learning how to write and follow instructions. Our learning has been linked to our current literacy text, Alice in Wonderland. This area of literacy has been brought to a close by following instructions to prepare for and take part in a 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'.
"My most favourite bits were rolling the pastry for the jam tarts and eating the healthy cucumber sandwiches. I also loved playing croquet which is basically like golf but you have to get the ball through different tunnels. I didn't like the fruit smoothie but everyone who did like it got a smoothie moustache." By Emma

Year 4: Tut's Terrible Tomb Discovery
During our topic of Ancient Egyptians, children became journalists to find out about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. They collected all of the information about the discovery and presented it to the class in the form of a newspaper report. The children were excited to reveal the true contents of the mysterious tomb. They were also most intrigued to hear of the curse that was inscribed to protect the tomb: 'Death shall come on swift wings to him who disturbs the peace of the King!'

Welcome to the Year 3-4 Blog
We take school-home communication very seriously at Hacton Primary. Parents should feel confident that their children are getting the very best education in our friendly, nurturing environment. Children's successes should be celebrated so that they feel proud of their work and motivated to improve. Magical moments happen every day at our school and we hope that this blog helps to capture some of them
