In Year 4 this week, we will be learning:

Mathematics

In Year 4 this week, we will be learning:

• to use column method for short and long multiplication.
• to use bus stop method for short division.

Year 3 Objectives W/C 2/11/15

Literacy

In Year 3 this week, we will be learning:

• to know the names of different camera angles and the effects they have on the viewer.
• using camera angles to guide our written work.

Mathematics

In Year 3 this week, we will be learning:

• to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.

In Year 4 this week, we will be learning:

• to use adjectives and adjectival phrases to add description.
• to describe a setting using similes, metaphors and personification.

Mathematics

In Year 4 this week, we will be learning:

• to add and subtract using compact column method.
• to subtract using expanded column method.

Year 4: Our Trip to the British Museum

Last week, Year 4 visited the British Museum to learn about an ancient time of mummies, pyramids and hieroglyphics. The trip brought their current topic of Ancient Egypt to life, giving them an insight into the lives of people in the time of the pharaohs. 

Year 4 explored many rooms filled with artefacts from Ancient Egypt, including pots, tools and wall paintings. However, it was the bandaged mummies that caught their attention the most, along with the canopic jars which held the organs of the mummified Egyptians. They were also intrigued by the golden sarcophagi, which were elaborately decorated for richer Egyptians to take with them on their journey to the afterlife. The children observed the remains of a man who had a sand burial. The desert sand that encased the man helped preserve his body so that skin, flesh and hair have remained visible after thousands of years. 

We are so lucky to have this fantastic museum just a train journey away. Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed their experience and it was truly a day to remember.

Year 3: Mad Hatter's Tea Party

In Year 3, we have been learning how to write and follow instructions. Our learning has been linked to our current literacy text, Alice in Wonderland. This area of literacy has been brought to a close by following instructions to prepare for and take part in a 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'.

"My most favourite bits were rolling the pastry for the jam tarts and eating the healthy cucumber sandwiches.  I also loved playing croquet which is basically like golf but you have to get the ball through different tunnels.  I didn't like the fruit smoothie but everyone who did like it got a smoothie moustache."
