Year 3 -Roman Shields

In History, year 3 have been enjoying learning about the Romans and in preparation for our Roman day (Tuesday 13th) we have made some authentic Roman shields. First we painted the red and silver sections then we added the arrow design and gold around the edges. We look forward to using them as part of our costume.

Viking Day 7/6/16

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed a range of activities based on the Vikings. They spent the morning playing a Viking board game, completing a quiz by finding clues around the classroom and they listened to many stories explaining how and where the Vikings travelled from and to. In the afternoon, they learnt about Viking weapons and battles. They even had a mini battle and learnt how to effectively use a 'shield wall'- a form of protection. The children also witnessed weapons being used to slice a melon in two which greatly amused the children whilst creating a mess on the floor.

The Fourth Plinth Programme is one of the most talked about contemporary art prize in the UK. Funded by the Mayor of London, the competition invites artists to design their own plinth to go in Trafalgar Square. Here are some of year 4's designs. Many children also made their design into 3D models.

Year 3 Journeys Through Dance

In dance lessons, Year 3 have been creating different journeys. Our first journey was climbing up a hill. When we got to the top of the hill we scanned the area by looking around and down. When the music changed we turned around and went back down the hill rapidly. Our second journey took us across the sea. We were learning to transfer our weight from one part of our body to another. This was to represent us rocking inside a boat. When the music changed we started to transfer our weight more frantically. Lastly, our journey took us into... SPACE! We learnt how to make our bodies streamlined like a real rocket. Everyone in the group worked together to create an explosion in all directions.

We hope you enjoy watching our journeys through dance.

Paragraph Writing in Year 4

In Year 4 Literacy we have been practising writing well structured, coherent paragraphs. We were very pleased to read a fantastic paragraph about the joys of being a pupil at Hacton Primary School.

"Hacton Primary School is a phenomenal place to educate children and learn more every day. There are up to seventeen classes with exceptionally clever children working until their brains POP! The children go on very adventurous trips and watch wonderful pantomimes. The staff work together to make the children learn something new everyday. The children enjoy the assemblies from Monday to Friday and on Tuesdays the teachers give the privilege to the children to make their own assembly and show their hard work to the rest of the school. Overall Hacton is a great school and I recommend it for your child."

That's what we like to hear! Well done for some great literacy work.

Year 4: Tut's Terrible Tomb Discovery

During our topic of Ancient Egyptians, children became journalists to find out about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. They collected all of the information about the discovery and presented it to the class in the form of a newspaper report. The children were excited to reveal the true contents of the mysterious tomb. They were also most intrigued to hear of the curse that was inscribed to protect the tomb: 'Death shall come on swift wings to him who disturbs the peace of the King!'
