Class 3KV - Writing a blurb

In Year 3, we have been using 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo in our literacy lessons.

3KV first of all had a look at a range of different blurbs in order to identify the features of blurbs.

This is what we came up with...

  • Introduces the main character of the story.
  • Tells us some background information of the text.
  • Explains the main problem of the story.
  • Exciting verbs!
  • Includes a rhetorical question to get the reader of the blurb thinking.
  • Includes an ellipses to build suspense and make the reader want to read the book.

We then had a go at writing our very own blurb for Michael Morpurgo's engaging story which we thoroughly enjoyed.

How many features can you find in these children's blurbs? Did they use any exciting vocabulary?
