Year 3 Roman Day- Part 3

The roar of the Legion Commander proved a shocking start to life in the Roman Army this afternoon as our new army cadets stood still in line with only their nervous breathing audible. Luckily all avoided a beating with the stick as they followed the strict orders to prove themselves ready for battle against those barbarian Celts.  As well as getting fit and carrying heavy armour and weapons, being prepared meant having a haircut too!

After drill (for which the soldiers were expected to understand Latin) the new recruits were able to try on the armour and shields- they had made it to the Roman Army and would now give the next 25 years to defending the Roman Empire.

After all that hard work, our brave soldiers settled down to a delicious Roman feast making sure to use their middle finger and thumb to hold the grapes and pitta bread so as not to appear uncouth.
